“Why are the Friends of Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park important to me? Because the national park is a unique place—the volcanoes, the landscape, the trees, the animals—there’s an interrelationship between all the different aspects. I have really enjoyed coming to the park since I was a kid. I can remember visiting when I was 8 and now I’m 70 so that’s a long, long time. It’s a very peaceful place; it’s a very powerful place. It needs the Friends—people to help the park along.”
