Friends of Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park supports many programs in the park. One program FHVNP currently sponsors (in partnership with Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park and the National Park Foundation) is the 2012 Digital Mountain Film Festival.
The Digital Mountain Film Festival is a film making competition open to all youth from 7th to 12th grade. There are two categories for entries – 7th – 9th grade and 10th – 12th grade.
The competition asked for entries of Big Island youth to make a 3 minute video telling us why Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park was important to them, and/or- How does life survive and thrive in Hawai’i?
The films have all been submitted and entry closed on November 5, 2012. Now it is up to us to vote on our favorite film.
WE STILL HAVE TIME TO VOTE! – Voting closes on November 30, 2012.
Please go to http://www.youtube.com/user/DigitalMountain2012?feature=watch to view the films. Public voting is for the “People’s Choice” award. We are allowed to cast one vote for the People’s Choice. You cannot cast your vote on the YouTube site (this is just for viewing the films). Please cast your vote via email to Kupono_McDaniel@nps.gov.
Please note: We are not allowed to cast votes in each age group, but rather one vote for your overall favorite. Make sure to indicate the name of the film you are voting for in your email.
There are three prizes being given – first one is for the People’s Choice (our vote), and then two separate awards for the two age groups (determined by an independent panel of judges). Computers are being awarded to the three winners!
We were pleased to be one of the sponsors of this educational and entertaining program!
